一、什么是体育硕士专业学位?
体育硕士专业学位是我国38种专业学位中的一种，
2005年成立并开始招生，共有4个培养领域，分别为：体育教学、运动训练、竞赛组织管理和社会体育指导。全国除香港、澳门和台湾外，共有63所院校开展体育硕士专业学位教育;目前有全日制攻读、在职攻读体育硕士专业学位2种形。
二、体育硕士专业学位的培养目标是：
体育硕士专业学位的培养目标是：培养在体育领域中，掌握坚实的体育基础理论、宽广的体育专业知识，具有较强的解决实际问题能力，能够独立承担体育专业技术或管理工作的高层次应用型体育专门人才。其具体要求为：
(一)具备一定的马克思主义基本理论、良好的专业素质和职业道德，积极为社会主义现代化建设服务，为促进体育事业的发展做出贡献。
(二)具有系统的专业知识，具备胜任体育教学、运动训练、竞赛组织和社会体育指导等领域实际工作的能力。
(三)能够运用一门外语，在本专业领域进行专业技术交流。
三、体育硕士培养方式及特色：
1.全日制体育硕士专业学位研究生的学习年限一般为二年。
2.采用理论知识与应用能力培养、人文精神与科学精神培养、专业素质和综合素质培养紧密结合的培养模式。
3.课程学习采用讲授、案例分析、实习相结合的方式，强化学生实践环节，安排多种实践教学和专题讲座。
4.实行导师负责制。鼓励校内、外导师联合培养，以校内导师为主。培养单位可聘任具有丰富实践经验的体育教师、教练员、体育管理者等长期从事体育硕士的培养工作，参与实践过程、项目研究、论文写作等多个环节的指导工作，重点突出专业技能和综合素养的提高。
