考题 Almost everyone knows the meaning of "Mr.", "Mrs.", and "Miss&q Almost everyone knows the meaning of "Mr.", "Mrs.", and "Miss". "Mr." is used before the names of gentlemen. "Mrs." is for married women and "Miss" is for single women. But what is "Ms."?For some time, businessmen in the US have used "Ms." before a woman's name when they do not know whether or not the woman is marrieD.Today, however, many women prefer to use "Ms." rather than "Mrs." or "Miss". The word "Mr." does not tell us whether a man is married or not. Many women think this is an advantage for men. They want to be equal to men in this way. These women feel that it is not important for people to know whether or not they are marrieD.There are some problems with "Ms.", however. Not all women like it. Some like the older ways of doing things. Some find it difficult to pronounce. ("Ms." sounds like [miz].) Generally, young women like it better than older women do. It is difficult to know whether "Ms." will be used by more American women in the future or not. What do you think of this change?1. 考题 共用题干 Women's minds work differently from men's.At least, that is what most men are convinced of. Psychologists view the subject either as a matter of frustration or a joke. Now the biologists have moved into this minefield, and some of them have found that there are real differences between the brains of men and women. But being different, they point out hurriedly,is not the same as being better or worse. There is,however,a definite structural variation between the male and female brain. The difference is in a part of the brain that is used in the most complex intellectual processes一the link between the two halves of the brain. The two halves are linked by a trunk line of between 200 and 300 million nerves, the corpus callosum.Scientists have found quite recently that the corpus callosum in women is always larger and probably richer in nerve fibres than it is in men. This is the first time that a structural difference has been found between the brains of women and men and it must have some significance. The question is"What?",and,if this difference exists, are there others?Research shows that present-day women think differently and behave differently from men.Are some of these differences biological and inborn,a result of evolution? We tend to think that is the influence of society that produces these differences. But could we be wrong?Research showed that these two halves of the brain had different functions, and that the corpus callosum enabled them to work together. For most people, the left half is used for word-handling, analytical and logical activities;the right half works on pictures, patterns and forms. We need both halves working together. And the better the connections, the more harmoniously the two halves work. And,according to research findings, women have the better connections. But it isn't all that easy to explain the actual differences between skills of men and women on this basis. In schools throughout the world girls tend to be better than boys at"language subjects" and boys better at maths and physics. If these differences correspond with the differences in the hemispheric trunk line, there is an unalterable distinction between the sexes. We shan't know for a while, partly because we don't know of any precise relationship between abilities in school subjects and the functioning of the two halves of the brain, and we cannot understand how the two halves interact via the corpus callosum. But this striking difference must have some effect and, because the difference is in the parts of the brain involved in intellect,we should be looking for differences in intellectual processing. At the end of the passage the author proposes more work on the effects of the corpus callosum.A:Right B:Wrong C:Not mentioned

考题 Passage? One The small number of newborn babies, which has been caused by high prices and the changing social situation of women,is one of the most serious problems inAsia. When people talk about it,you can hear a word invented inJapan,"DINKS",which means Double Income No Kids. In many majorAsian cities like Seoul,Singapore, and Tokyo, the cost of a house is extremelyhigh.A young couple who want to buy their own house may have to pay about$300,000(though prices have fallen). For a flat with one bedroom,onedining-room,a kitchen, and a bathroom, the couple will pay about$900 amonth. What′s more,if they want to have a child, the child′s education is veryexpensive. For example, most kindergarten charges are at least$5,000 a year.In such a situation,it′s difficult to afford children. The number ofmarried women who want to continue working increases rapidly because they enjoytheir jobs. However,if they want to have children, they immediately haveserious problems.Though most companies allow women to leave their jobs for ashort time to have a baby, they expect women with babies to give up their jobs.In short,if they want to bring up children properly, both parents have towork, but it is hard for mothers to work.Indeed, women who want to continueworking have to choose between having children or keeping their jobs. In a word,Asiangovernments must take steps to improve the present situation as soon aspossible. What is the main problem beingdiscussed in the passage?A.The small number of newborn babies. B.The changing social situation of women. C.The high prices of houses andeducation. D.The necessary steps of Asiangovernments.

考题 Everyone becomes a little more forgetful as they get older, but men's minds decline more than women's, according to the results of a worldwide survey. Certain differences seem to be inherent in male and female brains: Men are better at maintaining and dealing with mental images (useful in mathematical reasoning and spatial skills ) , while women tend to excel (擅长) at recalling information from their brain's files (helpful with language skills and remembering the locations of objects). Many studies have looked for a connection between sex and the amount of mental decline ( 衰退) people experience as they age, but the results have been mixed. Some studies found more age-related decline in men than in women, while others saw the opposite or even no relationship at all between sex and mental decline. Those results could be improper because the studies involved older people, and women live longer than men: The men tested are the survivors, "so they're the ones that may not have shown such cognitive decline," said study team leader Elizabeth of the University of Warwick in England. People surveyed completed four tasks that tested sex-related cognitive skills: matching an object to its rotated form, matching lines shown from the same angle, typing as many words in a particular category (范畴) as possible in the given time, e.g."object usually colored gray", and recalling the location of objects in a line drawing. The first two were tasks at which men usually excel; the latter were typically dominated by women. Within each age group studied, men and women performed better in their separate categories on average. And though performance declined with age for both genders, women showed obviously less decline than men overall. The author aims to tell us that__________ .A.women's minds perform better than men's B.men's minds decline more with age C.everyone becomes a little more forgetful as they get older D.a survey on human's mind decline was done recently
