(a) (i) The definition of what constitutes a contract for the purpose of applying the standard is critical. The definition of contract is based on the definition of a contract in the USA and is similar to that in IAS 32 Financial Instruments: Presentation. Discounts and variable consideration will typically be allocated proportionately to all of the performance obligations in the contract. Step five requires revenue to be recognised as each performance obligation is satisfied.
