我是学化工的，想进外企，所以想考商务英语，但是不知道这个证书的用处多大，这个考试需要有商务外贸的基础吗？

这个问题应该从两方面说。一，你是指拿证有用吗。二，学习商务英语本身有用吗。
第一个问题：拿证来说，有用，但不是太大用处。如果你以后从事商务英语方面的工作，可能在面试的时候可以增加你的分量，除此之外，别无他用。而且如是用在教学方面，基本上没有什么用。
第二个问题：学习商务英语本身当然很有用，首先商务英语中有很多已经成为习惯的英语表达方式，礼节，处理商务问题的方法和思维方式等，这些在学习中都很系统，也很全面。其次，你可以学习到在商务中才会用到的地道的英语词汇和表达。这都是在平时的学习中很难接触到和体会到的。
商务英语共有三个等级：初，中，高。初级根本不用考，上点用没有。看你自己的水平，考一下中级或高级，我自己感觉，中级相当于大学四六级，高级相当于专业八级。
我个人建议是，如果你将来打算从事外贸等方面的工作的话，我建议你考一下，这个并不比专业八级的含金量多多少。还有，如果要考的话，就要认真准备认真考试，据我所知考这个的通过率并不怎么高。所以利弊自己多多权衡。
