考题 请阅读Passage 1。完成第小题。 Passage 1 African elephants have been slaughtered at alarming rate over the past decade, largely because they are the primary source of the world's ivory. Their population has been dwindled from 1.3 million in 1979 to just 625,000 today, and the rate of killing has been accelerating in recent years because many of the older, bigger tusked animals have already been destroyed. "The poachers now must kill times as many elephants to get the same quantity of ivory," explained Curtis Bohlen,Senior vice president of the World Wildlife Fund. Though its record on the environment has been spotty so far, the government last week took the lead in a major conservation issue by imposing a ban on ivory imports into the US. The move came just four days after a consortium of conservation groups, including the World Wildlife Fund and Wildlife Conservation International, called for that kind of action, and it made the US the first nation to forbid imports of both raw and finished ivory. The ban, says Bohlen, sends a very clear message to the ivory poachers that the game is over. In the past African nations have resisted an ivory ban, but increasingly they realized that the decimation of the elephant herds poses a serious threat to their tourist business. Last month Tanzania and several other African countries called for an amendment to the 102 nation Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species that would make the ivory trade illegal worldwide. The amendment is expected to be approved at an October meeting in Geneva and to go into effect next January. But between now and then, conservationists contend, poachers may go on a rampage, killing elephants wholesale, so nations should unilaterally forbid imports right away. The US government brought that argument, and by week's end the twelve nations European Community had followed with its own ban. Since many of the older, bigger-tusked animals have already been destroyed, what did the poacher do? 查看材料 A.They gave up poaching. B.They killed more elephants to get the same quantity of ivory.. C.To them, game is over. D.They realized it was illegal to slaughter elephants.

考题 Do you have any idea what you would like to be and do after graduation? A lot of people don′! begin thinking about careers until they reach junior or senior year, which, in my opinion, is too late. When people are trying to decide what they want to do, it helps to know something they love. Ever since I was little, I′ve always been doing someone′s hair, make-up or nails, starting with Barbie dolls and progressing to humans. Over the years my family has really inspired me to do this and now I fix friends′ and family members′ hair for weddings, dances and other big events. I have been thinking about what I would like to do for a career since middle school. I did some research and discovered that I might really enjoy being a cosmetologist, so I went to my hair stylist and asked her lots of questions about what it takes to reach her level and what she would recommend I do. I considered her advice and then did more research. I used Aveda′ s website to get information on the Aveda Institute and what type of credit (贷款) I would need from high school to apply. I found their institute has three parts: theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and professional business-building skills. For the past few years, I have been looking at Aveda in more and more detail. This school not only offers cosmetology, but also massage therapy. I grew up in Minnesota (美国中北部的一个州), so I plan to apply to the institute in Minneapolis that several people have highly recommended. It helps students become "future industry leaders in hair care, skin care, makeup and total body wellness". It is affordable and everyone there is friendly and understanding. Having done the groundwork and thinking about what I′d like to do after high school, I know that I will definitely pursue my dream of becoming a cosmetologist. Why does the author think it′s too late for people to start thinking about careers in junior or senior year?A.Because he/she began to think about them when very young. B.Because many people are too old to learn. C.Because a lot of people can't grasp the opportunity. D.Because many people have little they love.

考题 问答题The celebrations of Easter have many customs and legends that have nothing to do with Christianity. Among various symbols associated with Easter, Easter bonny has been playing an important part. In pagan times, the “Easter hare” was no ordinary animal, but a sacred companion of the old goddess of spring, Eastre. The Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility lore. The Hare and the Rabbit were the most fertile animals known and they served as symbols of the new life during the Spring season. Hares are animals which look like rabbits, but are larger and in many countries quite rare. In most places, the Easter rabbit (bunny) has replaced the Easter hare completely. Since long before Jesus Christ was born, parents told their children that the magic hare would bring them presents at the spring festival. The presents were often painted eggs, as these represented the new life starting at this time of year.
