Your firm is planning to export carpets to Great Britain. At a recent conference you met William Linton, who is a market analyst working for a British company, British Agents Consultants.
Write a letter to Mr. Linton in 160—200 words, explaining what your firm is planning to do and giving details of what you would like his company to do for you.
You should write 160—200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.
Dear Mr. Linton, I am writing to you because I believe your company is in a position to help us plan the export of our carpets to Great Britain. Our company has been making carpets for almost 20 years, and we have exported a variety of our top quality products to more than 100 countries in Asia, Africa and America. Now we are planning to introduce our carpets into British market. We are enclosing the latest catalogue of our products. As we know little about the supply and demand of carpets in UK, I would like your company to conduct a market research on the models of carpets available in UK market, the price range all over the country, and the competition, etc. , and finally present us a report based on the research. If you are interested in this project, please confirm us as soon as possible and let us know the cost and expenses necessary for this consultancy service. We hope to hear from you soon. Yours sincerely, Cathy

二、 参考范文
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing because I need to complain to you about what happened to my luggage carried by your airlines. On Friday, June 2, 2006, I traveled on your airlines from Beijing to Paris. When I went to pick up my luggage in Paris, I was informed that it was missing. The lost luggage is a black suitcase, 50 cm in length and 30 cm in width, in which there are five volumes of valuable research papers. If they cannot be found for me, I am sure that you will agree to pay me ¥1000, the estimated worth of my luggage on my claim ticket, to compensate for my great loss.
I have always enjoyed the good service of your airlines, and I look forward to receiving the same kind of good service in this matter.
Sincerely
Li Ming

Passage Four
If you are like most people, your intelligence varies from season to season. You are probably a lot sharper in the spring than you are at any other time of year. A noted scientist, Ells- worth Huntington (1876-1947) concluded from other men's work and his own among peoples in different climates that climate and: temperature have a definite effect on our mental abilities.
He found that cool weather is much more favorable for creative thinking than summer heat is. This does not mean that all people are less intelligent in the summer than they are during the rest of the year. It does mean, however, that mental, abilities of large numbers of people tend to be lowest in the summer.
Spring appears to be the best period of the year for thinking. One reason may be that in the spring man's mental abilities are affected by the same factors that bring about great changes in all nature.
Fall is the next best season, then winter. As for summer, it seems to be a good time to take a long vacation from thinking!
46. According to the passage, your mental ability ______.
A. depends on your attitude towards people in different time of the year
B. changes for the worst when you dislike most people in hot season
C. will be best in winter and worst in summer if you want to be creative
D. turns to be more powerful in spring than in any of the other seasons
46.答案为B。根据第一段最后一句Ellsworth Huntington (1876-1947) concluded from other men's work and his own among peoples in different climates...作出该项选择。

I make bold to write this letter to ask you to do me a favor. I have tried to translate several short Chinese stories into English for a part-time job. As it is the first time for me to do a translation work, I think there must be many errors and awkward expressions of Chinese English for my lack of experiences. I sincerely hope that you would read over my manuscripts and correct my mistakes and socialisms. Also could you please give me some other suggestions on my translation work.
Thank you for your help with great respect!
Your faithful student,

I am enclosing a resume and looking forward to hearing from you.
